Silo Trailer Service – Spitzer, Feldbinder, Kassbohrer | PHS Magnum Poland
Specialist service for silo trailers: pneumatic system repairs, pressure vessel welding, paint renovation, TDT inspection preparation. Spitzer, Feldbinder, Kassbohrer. Chorula, Poland (A4 motorway).
In Brief
A silo trailer (also: bulk powder trailer or pneumatic tanker) is a pressurised tank semi-trailer used to transport dry bulk materials: cement, gypsum, plastic granules (PE/PP), flour and animal feed. Discharge is pneumatic — a compressor builds 2–3.5 bar pressure that fluidises the material through aeration pads, pushing it via pipe to the customer’s silo. The most common failures are worn aeration pads (6–8 h replacement) and faulty safety valves.
Silo trailers are mechanically straightforward by design and complex in operation. A cylindrical pressure vessel, pneumatic discharge system, aeration chambers, safety valves — each component has its own service life and characteristic failure mode. Over 20 years of specialised service at PHS Magnum, we have seen every type of damage. We know what fails first and where to look before the customer reports a problem.
We serve Polish carriers and DACH-region fleets (Germany, Austria, Switzerland). Trailers arrive directly via motorway A4 — Chorula is 10 minutes from the Prądy junction.
Most Common Silo Trailer Failures
Pneumatic and aeration system faults are by far the largest repair category. Aeration pads (the fluidisation elements in the silo chambers) have a lifespan that depends heavily on the material carried. Plastic granules (PE/PP) are gentle — pads last years. Cement and lime destroy them faster through alkaline degradation. Symptoms: uneven, slow, or complete discharge failure, residual material at tank bottom, compressor running at maximum with no output. Replacing a full set of aeration pads in a Spitzer BT 65 takes 6–8 hours.
Safety and pressure-relief valves are components operators often ignore until an inspection refusal. Valves work under 2–3.5 bar and eventually lose their seal or lock open. In either case the trailer cannot operate. We stock valves for most Spitzer and Feldbinder models.
Leaks at connection flanges and pressure fittings typically manifest at morning start-up or during discharge at the customer site. Simple repair, but time-consuming due to access on some fittings.
Tank — cracks and corrosion appear mainly on trailers after 12–15 years of operation. Cracks initiate at welds — hatch frames, attached brackets. Welding pressure vessels requires TDT (technical inspection authority) welder certification. Our welders hold the required approvals for both aluminium and steel pressure vessel welding.
Suspension and running gear — air bags, BPW/SAF axles, wheel bearings. Silo trailers are heavy (GVW 44t) and often overloaded. Running gear wear is intensive.
