TDT Failed – What Next

Silo trailer refused TDT certification in Poland? Find out the most common causes, what must be repaired, and how to get a positive re-inspection in 2–5 working days. Phone: +48 504 788 385.

TDT inspection of silo trailer – TDT inspector during pressure vessel examination

In Brief

TDT refusal means the TDT inspector found defects preventing safe operation of the pressurised vessel. The trailer cannot transport bulk cargo under pressure until faults are resolved and a re-inspection passes. Most common causes: pressure test leak, defective safety valve, corroded tank wall, incomplete documentation. PHS Magnum repairs the identified faults and organises re-inspection with the TDT inspector at our workshop — typically 3–7 working days from arrival.

Silo Trailer Refused TDT Inspection – What to Do

A TDT refusal document is not the end — it’s a precise repair specification. Our job is to fix every item on the list and get your trailer back into legal operation as fast as possible.

Important: After a TDT refusal, the pressure vessel cannot be used for bulk transport. Drive the unit unladen to our workshop in Chorula (A4 exit Opole West).

Most Common Reasons for TDT Refusal

Based on 20+ years of TDT inspection support at PHS Magnum:

1. Pressure vessel leak during hydraulic test

The TDT inspector conducts a hydraulic test at 1.5× nominal pressure. Leakage exceeding 1% of volume per minute disqualifies the vessel. Typical causes: weld cracks, pitting corrosion, worn inspection hatch gaskets.

Repair: TIG/MIG welding with TDT documentation, gasket replacement, corrosion area repair.

2. Missing or defective safety valve

Safety valves must open within ±10% of the set pressure. A recalibrated or stuck valve, or missing calibration seal — grounds for refusal.

Repair: Safety valve replacement. Typical cost: from €140 + labour. Time: 1–2 hours.

3. Tank wall thickness below minimum

TDT uses ultrasonic wall thickness measurement. Minimum wall thickness is specified in the vessel documentation. Corrosion is the most common issue on steel tanks without adequate coating.

Repair: Section replacement or reinforcement welding with full recertification.

4. Expired pressure gauge calibration

Gauges require calibration every 2 years. Expired calibration seal = defect.

Repair: Gauge replacement or recalibration. We stock calibrated replacement gauges.

5. EBS/ABS brake system faults

The TDT inspector also checks the brake system. Active EBS fault codes, worn brake actuators, or brake circuit leaks block certification alongside the pressure vessel check.

Repair: EBS diagnostics via Wabco interface, defective component replacement.

PHS Magnum Procedure After TDT Refusal

  1. Bring the refusal document — the TDT protocol listing all defects
  2. Repair quote — within 24 hours we provide a fixed quote for all listed defects
  3. Repairs — completed in 1–5 working days depending on scope
  4. Re-inspection — TDT inspector comes to our workshop in Chorula
  5. Certification — vehicle documentation updated, trailer back in service

Total turnaround: typically 3–7 working days.

Repair Cost Estimates

Defect Repair time Estimated cost
Safety valve replacement 1–2h from €140

Frequently Asked Questions

No. A TDT refusal for a pressure vessel means the trailer cannot operate under pressure — no bulk material transport. The tractor unit can drive unladen to the service centre.

After repairs are completed, we schedule the TDT inspector for re-inspection within 2–5 working days. No waiting in a queue at the TDT office — the inspector comes to our workshop.

TDT is the Polish technical inspection for pressure vessels and special vehicles, conducted by the Transportowy Dozór Techniczny (TDT). It is equivalent to TÜV/DEKRA certification under EU Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU and is mutually recognised within the EU.

Yes, but all pressure vessel repairs must be documented: welder qualifications, weld protocols, pressure test records. Inspectors may refuse to certify repairs without proper documentation. We provide full documentation as standard.

Based on our experience: (1) pressure vessel leak during hydraulic test — worn hatch seals or cracked welds, (2) defective safety valve — fails to open at set pressure, (3) corroded tank wall below minimum thickness, (4) uncalibrated pressure gauges, (5) incomplete or missing pressure vessel documentation.

Typical timeline: inspection day 1, written quote within 24h, repairs 1–5 working days depending on scope, TDT re-inspection scheduled within 2–5 working days after repairs. Total: 5–12 working days for most cases. For complex structural repairs or missing manufacturer documentation — allow more time.

Yes. After a TDT refusal the pressure vessel cannot carry bulk cargo under pressure. Drive the tractor unit unladen (or with the trailer empty) to our workshop in Chorula, A4 exit Opole West. We assist with logistics if the trailer cannot be moved — call first.

Bring: the TDT refusal protocol (issued by the TDT inspector), the pressure vessel logbook (Książka urządzenia), previous inspection records, and any existing repair documentation. The more complete the paperwork, the faster we can assess what is needed and schedule the re-inspection.
