In Brief
TDT refusal means the TDT inspector found defects preventing safe operation of the pressurised vessel. The trailer cannot transport bulk cargo under pressure until faults are resolved and a re-inspection passes. Most common causes: pressure test leak, defective safety valve, corroded tank wall, incomplete documentation. PHS Magnum repairs the identified faults and organises re-inspection with the TDT inspector at our workshop — typically 3–7 working days from arrival.
Silo Trailer Refused TDT Inspection – What to Do
A TDT refusal document is not the end — it’s a precise repair specification. Our job is to fix every item on the list and get your trailer back into legal operation as fast as possible.
Important: After a TDT refusal, the pressure vessel cannot be used for bulk transport. Drive the unit unladen to our workshop in Chorula (A4 exit Opole West).
Most Common Reasons for TDT Refusal
Based on 20+ years of TDT inspection support at PHS Magnum:
1. Pressure vessel leak during hydraulic test
The TDT inspector conducts a hydraulic test at 1.5× nominal pressure. Leakage exceeding 1% of volume per minute disqualifies the vessel. Typical causes: weld cracks, pitting corrosion, worn inspection hatch gaskets.
Repair: TIG/MIG welding with TDT documentation, gasket replacement, corrosion area repair.
2. Missing or defective safety valve
Safety valves must open within ±10% of the set pressure. A recalibrated or stuck valve, or missing calibration seal — grounds for refusal.
Repair: Safety valve replacement. Typical cost: from €140 + labour. Time: 1–2 hours.
3. Tank wall thickness below minimum
TDT uses ultrasonic wall thickness measurement. Minimum wall thickness is specified in the vessel documentation. Corrosion is the most common issue on steel tanks without adequate coating.
Repair: Section replacement or reinforcement welding with full recertification.
4. Expired pressure gauge calibration
Gauges require calibration every 2 years. Expired calibration seal = defect.
Repair: Gauge replacement or recalibration. We stock calibrated replacement gauges.
5. EBS/ABS brake system faults
The TDT inspector also checks the brake system. Active EBS fault codes, worn brake actuators, or brake circuit leaks block certification alongside the pressure vessel check.
Repair: EBS diagnostics via Wabco interface, defective component replacement.
