Fly ash transport by silo trailer – PL and export to DE

Transport of fly ash and power-plant dusts by silo trailer. Codes 10 01 02, 19 01 13*. Export to Germany requires GIOŚ notification. Chorula.

Fly ash transport by road silo – PHS Magnum silo trailer

We transport fly ash with our own fleet of silo trailers. Fly ash is a bulk mineral material — we haul it in 55–65 m³ silo trailers, payload ~24–26 t per trip, across Poland and the entire EU. Coal fly ash (code 10 01 02) without hazardous substances is non-ADR; streams with code 19 01 13* (containing hazardous substances) require a silo trailer and a driver with ADR qualifications. Export to Germany requires a GIOŚ notification (on the customer’s side). Quote: +48 602 716 551.

At a glance

Fly ash transport by silo trailer for the power, cement, recycling and waste-treatment sectors. Fly ash is a fine-grained bulk mineral material — we haul it in dedicated 55–65 m³ silo trailers (payload ~24–26 t), across Poland and the entire EU. Standard coal fly ash (10 01 02) is non-ADR; 19 01 13* streams require an ADR silo trailer. Export to Germany requires a GIOŚ notification (on the customer’s side). Characteristics, waste codes (10 01 02, 10 01 82, 19 01 13*) and legal requirements — see the sections below.

Characteristics of fly ash

Fly ash is a post-production waste from the power sector — a fine-grained powder produced when coal is burned in pulverised-fuel boilers. Typical grain size 1–100 microns. Loose bulk density 0.7–1.0 t/m³, after compaction even 1.3 t/m³.

The main waste streams handled on the market:

Code Description Characteristics
10 01 02 Coal fly ash The most common stream, non-hazardous
10 01 03 Fly ash from peat and wood A rarer stream
10 01 04* Fly ash from liquid fuels Hazardous (asterisk)
10 01 16* Fly ash from co-incineration Hazardous
10 01 82 Mixtures of ash with solid wastes Most often non-hazardous
19 01 13* Fly ash with hazardous substances Hazardous, ADR

Transboundary notification

Exporting ash from Poland to Germany, Austria or Czechia requires a notification with GIOŚ (the Polish Chief Inspectorate of Environmental Protection). On the customer’s side:

  • Submitting an application specifying the stream, code, mass, route and receiving installation
  • Acceptance by the competent authorities (in Poland and the destination country)
  • The notification typically covers 24 months and a specific volume (e.g. 1,500 t/year)

Without a valid notification the transport cannot take place. PHS Magnum, as the carrier, performs the transport in accordance with the customer’s documentation — we do not file notifications on the customer’s behalf.

Waste transfer note (KPO)

Every waste transport in the EU requires a KPO note (in Poland) or an equivalent document (Begleitschein in DE). It is issued by the producer and signed by the carrier and the consignee.

MSDS / safety data sheet

An industry requirement, even for non-hazardous streams. It confirms the material’s characteristics (heavy metal content, pH, reaction heat) — critical for transport safety and storage at the consignee.

How we carry out ash transport

1. Consultation before the first delivery

The customer provides: the waste code, MSDS, notification certificate (if it is an export transport), technical parameters of the cargo (moisture, density, temperature at loading). We select the appropriate silo trailer (standard or ADR).

2. Loading at the customer’s plant

The silo trailer pulls up to the loading installation at the power plant / cement plant / steelworks. Pneumatic loading (from the ash removal installation) or gravity loading from a silo.

3. Transport

Typical route: Poland → Germany, Austria, Czechia, Slovakia. Travel time from a power plant in southern Poland to Bavaria: 8–12 hours. Journey documentation compliant with transboundary waste shipment rules.

4. Unloading at the consignee

Most often a cement plant (ash as a clinker substitute in Portland cement) or a stabilisation installation. Pneumatic unloading via the on-board blow-off (trailer compressor) or via the receiving installation.

Experience with ashes

PHS Magnum serves:

  • Coal power — 10 01 02 fly ash to cement plants
  • Co-incineration — ash from biomass or waste for treatment
  • Metallurgy — metallurgical dusts (separate codes) for recovery installations
  • Export to EU countries — under the customer’s notifications

Real contracts: single jobs of 20–40 tonnes, regular deliveries of 100–500 tonnes per month, annual contracts of 1,500–2,000 tonnes under a notification.

Frequently Asked Questions

The codes most often seen in customer enquiries: 10 01 02 (coal fly ash), 10 01 82 (mixtures of fly ash and solid reaction wastes), 19 01 13* (fly ash containing hazardous substances — the asterisk = hazardous waste). The full list of codes is agreed individually after the waste data sheet is provided.

Yes. Transboundary shipment of waste from Poland to Germany requires a notification with GIOŚ. The notification typically covers 24 months, with the contracted volume in the range of 1,500–2,000 tonnes per year (for a single stream). The customer is responsible for obtaining the notification — we carry out the transport in accordance with it. If the customer does not have a notification, we can advise, but we do not act on the customer's behalf.

Coal fly ash (code 10 01 02) without hazardous substances does not require ADR. Ash with code 19 01 13* (with an asterisk, containing hazardous substances) — requires ADR classification and an appropriate silo trailer. Magnum has ADR-certified silo trailers — see [ADR transport](/en/bulk-transport/adr/).

In practice we handle single jobs from one silo trailer (22–25 t) up to regular contracts at the level of 1,500–2,000 tonnes per year. Smaller volumes are handled without any problem — larger ones require fleet planning in advance. For regular deliveries we agree a weekly schedule.
