Scania service — V8 and NextGen expertise

PHS Magnum has been servicing Scania tractor units for well over a decade. The specialisation covers the DC 13 (V6, 12.7L) and DC 16 (V8, 16.0L) engines — the most technically demanding designs in the truck segment. A 14-bay workshop capable of handling the full range of repairs.

Mobile Scania service — 30 min to Opole, 70-90 min to Gliwice, range approx. 200 km from the base in Chorula. The mobile mechanic is equipped with SDP3 diagnostics and typical wear parts (filters, oils, AdBlue, NOx sensors).

Scania models served

Scania NextGen Series (R, G, S — from 2017) — the latest Scania generation with DC 13 (Stage V/Euro 6), DC 09 (8.9L) and DC 16 engines. The Opticruise automated gearbox fully electronically controlled, XCOM bus. Full SDP3 diagnostics.

Scania R-Series (previous generation, up to 2017) — the most common in Polish transport. Full repair support, engine overhauls, Opticruise clutch replacement.

Scania P/G-Series — distribution and light vehicles. Full diagnostics and repair.

Scania T-Series — older cab-over-engine trucks. Mechanical repairs in the full scope.

Service scope

Scania SDP3 diagnostics

OEM system. Fault readout for the DC engine, EBS, Opticruise, AdBlue/SCR, retarder, air conditioning, immobiliser, tachograph. Sensor calibration, programming of new modules, access to XCOM.

DC 13 and DC 16 engine repair

DC 13 (V6, the most popular, 410-540 hp):

  • Head gasket replacement
  • Cylinder head overhaul (valves, seats, guides)
  • Timing chain and tensioner replacement
  • Common Rail fuel pump repair
  • Turbocharger replacement

DC 16 V8 (16.0L, 580-770 hp — the flagship premium engine):

  • Full overhaul with replacement of pistons, connecting rods and bearings
  • Camshaft replacement with tensioners
  • Compression performance diagnostics
  • Cylinder head overhaul

Opticruise repair (automated gearbox)

Opticruise clutch replacement (requires specialist tools), repair of the hydraulic control module, ATF oil change to Scania specification, calibration after repair.

Retarder repair

The hydrodynamic retarder integrated with Opticruise — operational diagnostics, coolant replacement, valve repair, overhaul of bearings and shaft. Calibration after repair.

Brakes and EBS

Caliper overhaul, disc/pad replacement, Wabco/Knorr modulator repair, wheel sensor replacement. EBS test with a report.

AdBlue/SCR repair

UREA dosers, AdBlue pumps, NOx sensors (before/after SCR), forced DPF regeneration, DPF replacement. Euro 6 emissions compliance documentation.

Accident cab repair

Straightening, replacement of structural beams, panel work, MIG/MAG welding (ISO 9606-1), polyurethane painting, calibration of cameras and ACC radars after repair.

Most frequent Scania faults — symptom and typical solution

The table helps with initial fault location; the cause is confirmed by SDP3 diagnostics:

SymptomTypical causeRepair scope

Frequent DPF regenerationclogged particulate filterforced regeneration or DPF replacement
Jerking / gear-change faultsworn clutch or Opticruise moduleOpticruise repair, SDP3 calibration

The mechanical scope overlaps with other makes in the workshop — see truck service, brake repair and EBS diagnostics.

Frequently Asked Questions

The full Scania range: R, G, S trucks (cabs — all generations), P (light), NextGen Series (the latest, from 2017). Engines: DC 13 (12.7L, V6), DC 16 (16.0L, V8), DC 9. Gearboxes: Scania Opticruise (automated), GR/GRS (manual). SDP3 diagnostics — the full Scania OEM system.

The mobile Scania mechanic travels from Chorula (4 km from the A4) to: Opole 30 min, Opole-East 25-35 min, Krapkowice 30-45 min, Kędzierzyn-Koźle 45-60 min, Gliwice 70-90 min, Katowice 90-110 min, Wrocław 100-120 min. Range approx. 200 km. The mobile mechanic is equipped with SDP3 diagnostics and typical Scania wear parts.

Yes — the full Scania SDP3 diagnostic system (official OEM). Reading and clearing faults of the DC engine, EBS module, Opticruise automated gearbox, AdBlue/SCR, air conditioning, immobiliser. Programming new modules after replacement, sensor calibration, access to XCOM (Scania Communicator).

Mobile (on the A4 or in the field): SDP3 diagnostics with fault clearing, pneumatics, EBS, minor electrical repairs, brake cylinder replacement, parking brake repair, wheel sensor replacement. In the workshop (Chorula): clutch replacement, Opticruise repair, DC 13/16 engine overhaul, retarder repair, cab bodywork, painting.

The most frequent: AdBlue system problems (NOx sensor, urea doser), DPF regeneration, XCOM electronics module failures, EBS calibration errors after sensor replacement, air-conditioning compressor faults. On older R-Series generations: Opticruise clutch wear, DC 13 timing cracks, Common Rail fuel supply pump problems.

Yes — we repair Scania retarders (the hydrodynamic system in Opticruise and the electromagnetic retarder in older generations). SDP3 diagnostics with operating parameter readout, overhaul of hydraulic valves, retarder coolant replacement, repair of retarder bearings and shaft. Full calibration after repair.

Yes. Scania is a Swedish brand popular in international transport. We regularly service vehicles with SE, DE, AT, NL, BE and DK registrations. Documentation in PL/EN/DE. EU VAT invoice in PLN or EUR. Many DACH fleet companies bring their Scanias to us because of lower labour costs.

The DC 16 (V8, 16.0L, 580-770 hp) is a premium design with more cylinders and higher loads, so an overhaul is more labour-intensive — the full scope includes replacing pistons, connecting rods, bearings and camshafts. The DC 13 (V6, 12.7L) is more common in line-haul transport and is more often repaired in the area of the cylinder head, timing and Common Rail pump. We diagnose both with SDP3.

Typical symptoms are weaker engine braking, overheating coolant, retarder faults in SDP3, or unusual noises from the system. The most common causes are worn hydraulic valves, old coolant, or wear of the bearings and shaft. After the overhaul we perform a full calibration, because an uncalibrated retarder gives uneven braking torque.

In many cases, yes. The mobile mechanic carries SDP3 diagnostics and typical wear parts, so they can read and clear DC engine, EBS or AdBlue faults, and replace a sensor or brake cylinder in the field. Repairs requiring a lift, a press or bodywork facilities (clutch, retarder, cab bodywork) are carried out in the workshop in Chorula.
