Tippers and trough trailers are worked hard. Aggregate, earth, gravel - abrasive loads, low haul roads, overloading. A tipper body takes more punishment in one year than a car body takes in ten. That is why a tipper most often reaches us with the same problems: cracked welds at the corner reinforcements, leaking hydraulic cylinders, torn tailgates and failed hydraulic valves.

Our tipper service in Chorula handles rigid tippers and tipper trailers (three-way and rear-tipping), trough trailers and flatbeds. We weld MIG/MAG for steel and TIG for aluminium, we have our own 10-tonne overhead crane, and an experienced tipper mechanic assesses the structure before anything is welded - a poorly diagnosed crack comes back after a few weeks of work.

Tipper Repair - Full Scope of Services

Tipper trailer repair and rigid tipper repair at PHS Magnum is a complete service: from a single hydraulic fault to a full body rebuild and accident repair. Below are the main areas we cover.

Hydraulic Repair - Cylinders, Pump, Distributor

The hydraulic system is the heart of every tipper and the most frequent cause of downtime.

Hydraulic lifting cylinders. A tipper telescopic cylinder operates at 200-280 bar. The most common failures: leaks at the rod seal (a visible oil film on the cylinder), a damaged thread or supply fitting, and corrosion or denting of the cylinder tube. We regenerate cylinders - seal replacement, rod polishing, guide inspection - or replace them with new ones depending on condition. When regeneration pays off and when replacement is the better call is decided after diagnostics.

Pump, distributor and valves. For PARKER, VOAC and EDBRO units we service distributor valves, replace filters, and top up or change the hydraulic oil. For control faults we run electrohydraulic diagnostics and repair solenoid valves. We also check tightness and correct working pressure across the whole system under load.

Side Panel and Load Body Repair and Replacement

The load body absorbs the largest share of welding repairs.

  • Cracks and panel work - cracked welds at corner reinforcements, floor cracks under aggregate loading, damaged and bulged side panels.
  • Side panel and beam replacement - straightening or replacing damaged side panels, repair of body profiles and cross-members.
  • Floor rebuild - replacing worn floor sheet with steel (S235, S355, Hardox) or aluminium.
  • Complete body / trough replacement - for a heavily worn body we fit a new tipper body or trough.

For Hardox wear-resistant steel bodies, dedicated electrodes and wire grades plus controlled welding temperature are required so that the joint is not weaker than the base material. Welding Hardox correctly - so the seam does not crack again - depends on preheat and heat-affected-zone control.

Trough (Half-Pipe) Trailer Repair

Trough-type tipping trailers for earth and aggregate have different challenges to classic tippers: a long, low body and wall-to-floor joints that are prone to cracking. We repair cracks at the corners and posts, replace skin plating, reinforce the floor structure, and recondition the sliding-tarpaulin mechanism.

Structural Welding and Accident Repair

Tipper welding is carried out by MIG/MAG (steel) and TIG (aluminium) on bays served by the 10-tonne crane. We repair chassis frames, brackets, cylinder and axle mounts and suspension components.

Accident repair of tipper trailers and rigid tippers is a separate specialism. After a collision we straighten and weld the frame, replace torn mounts, restore chassis geometry and repair the damaged hydraulic system. We prepare service documentation useful for insurance claims. Scope and quotation are agreed after inspection - request a quote.

Tailgates, Hinges and Anti-Corrosion Painting

Tailgates and hinges. The rear tailgate tears off, bends and cracks more often than any other component under intensive use. We straighten, weld, replace hinges and latches, and adjust the closing.

Painting. Tippers are especially exposed to corrosion from below - water, mud, de-icing salts. After welding we paint the underframe and body in our own booth: abrasive blasting (minimum Sa 2), epoxy primer, topcoat.

Diagnostics - Where We Start

Before any repair we carry out an inspection that lets us quote the work honestly and avoid recurring faults:

AreaWhat we check
Body structurecorner welds, floor, side panels, reinforcements
Tipping cylindertightness, rod condition, mounts, working pressure
Hydraulic systempump, distributor, valves, oil, filters
Tailgate and hingesclosing, play, latches, straightness
Frame and chassiscracks, corrosion, geometry (especially after accidents)

Trailer Brands and Vehicle Types

We service tipper bodies and tipper trailers of the most popular brands: Wielton, Feber, Schmitz Cargobull, Meiller, Kassbohrer, Fliegl, Hyva, Tisvol and others.

  • Rear-tipping tippers - steel or aluminium body
  • Three-way tippers - Meiller, Hyva, Tisvol
  • Tipper trailers - three-way and rear-tipping (Wielton, Feber, Fliegl, Schmitz)
  • Trough trailers (half-pipe) - low-loader, for earth and aggregate
  • Steel and aluminium flatbeds

Most Common Tipper Faults

From our experience in tipper service, a few fault types recur - it pays to spot them early, before a minor repair turns into costly downtime:

  • Oil leak from the tipping cylinder - oil film on the rod, the body settling after being raised. Usually a worn seal or a scored rod.
  • Cracked welds in the body corners - the result of overloading and vibration. They need not only welding but reinforcement of the joint so the crack does not return.
  • Bulged and bent side panels - from hard, angular aggregate and uneven loading.
  • Torn or misaligned rear tailgate - damaged hinges, latches or opening mechanism.
  • Floor and frame corrosion - especially on vehicles working through winter with salt and water; needs sheet rebuild and anti-corrosion painting.
  • Pressure drop in the hydraulic system - a worn pump, a leaking distributor or air in the system; the tipper raises slowly or will not close.

Reporting a fault to the tipper service early often allows a component to be regenerated rather than the whole assembly replaced.

How to Order a Tipper Repair - Step by Step

  1. Call and describe the fault - +48 602 716 551: vehicle type, body brand, symptoms.
  2. Diagnostics and initial quotation - inspection at the Chorula hall, scope agreed, no-obligation quote.
  3. Hydraulic and structural repair - cylinders, pump, distributor, body welding, frame straightening, side panel and trough replacement.
  4. Painting and final check - anti-corrosion protection, tightness test and tipping action under load.
  5. Vehicle collection and documentation - handover with service documentation; for accident damage, a summary for insurance claims.

Yes. For a heavily worn or destroyed body we fit a new tipper body or trough, or rebuild the floor and side panels in Hardox steel or aluminium. The regeneration-versus-replacement decision is made after diagnostics — rebuilding the floor and reinforcing the corners is often cheaper than a complete new body.

We service tipper trailers and trough trailers from Wielton, Feber, Schmitz Cargobull, Meiller, Kassbohrer, Fliegl and others. We repair both rigid tipper bodies (Meiller, Hyva) and three-way and rear-tipping tipper trailers.
