What commonly fails — and why it matters
Hydraulic system — pumps, motors, valves
The hydraulic circuit driving a piston concrete pump operates at 300–380 bar. Pump wear manifests as a gradual drop in pumping output, oil temperature rising above 80°C, and a characteristic pressure loss in the system. Repair: hydraulic pump regeneration or replacement, fluid change, filter and oil cooler inspection.
Pistons and cylinder seals of the concrete pump
Concrete pump pistons and cylinder seals require regular replacement — at intensive throughput, every 20,000–40,000 m³. Delaying replacement leads to increasing concrete leakage around the pump head and, subsequently, damaged pump cylinders — a repair several times more expensive.
S-tube valves and switching seals
Worn S-tube valves (Schwing-type) are loud — intense knocking on each switch is an early warning signal. Seal and switching sleeve replacement takes a few hours; replacing a destroyed S-tube takes longer. Ignoring the noise is the most common way to turn a minor repair into a major rebuild.
Concrete delivery pipe system
Pumping concrete without correct pipe lubrication and post-job cleaning dramatically shortens pipe service life. Pipe seizure or fitting failure under pressure typically affects operators who cut corners on cleaning procedures.
