TDT Inspections for Truck Mixers
PHS Magnum prepares truck mixers (transit mixers) for TDT technical inspection. Our TDT authorisation covers pressure equipment on vehicles – including mixer drums.
The mixing drum of a transit mixer is classified as a pressure vessel on a road vehicle under Polish law (aligned with EU norms). This means: external inspection every two years, detailed inspection with pressure test every six years, and an extraordinary inspection after any welding repair to the drum. Operating a transit mixer with an expired TDT certificate can result in a ban on commercial use and void insurance cover. PHS Magnum is a TDT-authorised service facility — we perform all preparatory work, coordinate the inspector’s visit, and compile the complete documentation package.
Preparation Scope
- Inspection of mixing drum condition — wall thickness measurement, weld seam inspection, corrosion assessment
- Repair and regeneration of mixing blades (drum flights): tungsten carbide hardfacing (up to 3× longer service life) or standard carbon steel overlay welding
- Inspection and repair of the drive mechanism (hydraulic pump, PTO, cardan shaft)
- Inspection and repair of the water system (pump, tank, pipework, non-return valve)
- Replacement of seals, bearings and wear elements
- Inspection of the mixing frame mounting on the truck chassis
- Documentation compilation for TDT/WDT: welding protocols, material certificates, work reports
When Is an Extraordinary TDT Inspection Required?
The most common triggers for an unscheduled inspection on transit mixers:
- Drum replacement — classified as a major modification to a pressure device
- Weld repair on the drum wall — cracks from fatigue, especially on vehicles over 15 years old
- Accident with drum damage — documentation required by the insurer
- Expiry of the regular inspection interval — every 2 or 6 years
We recommend beginning preparation at least four weeks before the inspection date — especially if drum flight renovation is planned, since carbide hardfacing can take 5–8 working days depending on drum circumference.

Pricing
Scope and cost vary significantly depending on drum size (6–12 m³) and degree of blade wear. We carry out a free preliminary inspection and provide a written quote before any work begins. Please provide the mixer model, year of manufacture and a brief description of the issue when requesting a quote.
