Introduction
The inter-flange gasket is one of the cheapest and at the same time most frequently replaced components of a silo trailer’s discharge system. Across the brands serviced at PHS Magnum, flanged connections recur in almost identical locations regardless of the tank manufacturer: between sections of the transfer pipework, at butterfly valves and other valves, and in the aeration system. The flange geometry and the adopted system change, but the gasket’s role stays the same — to close the connection so that the pneumatic system holds working pressure throughout the entire discharge cycle of bulk materials and PE/PP granulate.
We look at this part from the perspective of the whole fleet we service, not a single brand. To us, an “inter-flange gasket” is a family of components covering four flange systems and four materials, matched to the real configurations found on the Polish and DACH markets. EPDM remains the universal material for flanged connections — it copes well with the operating conditions typical of bulk material transport. NBR is chosen where there is a risk of contact with oily substances, and Elapac serves as an alternative version. The choice of EPDM colour (white/black) is mainly a matter of version designation and the purity requirements of the transported product.
Brand compatibility
Gaskets are selected by flange system and DN diameter, so a single range covers many silo trailer brands:
- Spitzer (SF/SK) — flanged connections on the transfer pipes and at the valves of the SF (non-tipping) and SK (lifting-tank) series.
- Feldbinder (EUT/KIP) — the EUT discharge system and the KIP pressure pipework; food-grade versions typically use white EPDM.
- Kässbohrer (K.SSK/K.SSL) — discharge system flanges in the typical DN diameters.
- Other brands — components in AKO and Prokosch systems, fitted on trailers from various manufacturers, use the same gasket types.
Because we cover the AKO, Prokosch, Spitzer and Feldbinder systems in full, a mixed fleet can be supplied with a single delivery. When matching, the key is to state the flange system, the DN diameter (DN80–DN200) and the transported medium — these decide the material and type, not the trailer manufacturer’s name alone.
How to select the right gasket — step by step
To avoid an incorrect order, please establish three parameters in this sequence:
- Flange system — AKO, Prokosch, Spitzer or Feldbinder. It is the system, not the vehicle brand itself, that determines the connection geometry.
- DN diameter — DN80, DN100, DN150 or DN200, read off the existing gasket or the flange.
- Transported medium — clean PE/PP granulate, food-grade bulk materials (indicating white EPDM) or risk of contact with oils and greases (indicating NBR).
On this basis we select the material and type. In the discharge system, gaskets work alongside the other control fittings and couplings — when ordering, it is worth checking the condition of the Storz system, the safety clamps and instruments such as glycerine-filled pressure gauges and thermometers, because they are usually replaced together.
