One category, many designs
The filling hatch is the silo’s top filling manhole — an opening in the upper part of the tank through which PE/PP granulate or other bulk material is loaded. After every loading cycle the manhole must be closed tight, and its tightness depends on the gasket seated between the hatch cover and the manhole rim. It maintains the boundary between the tank interior and the outside world: it keeps the cargo in, keeps moisture and contamination out, and allows working pressure to be held during discharge.
From the perspective of a network servicing many brands, one observation matters most: there is no universal size here. A filling hatch is not a flanged connection with a standardised DN diameter — the seat shape and gasket profile follow from each manufacturer’s design, and often from the model generation as well. The same component on a Spitzer, Feldbinder or Omeps can look completely different, and within a single brand it may split into new and old types. That is why we organise the filling hatch gasket range by brand and hatch type, not by numerical values. We run the warehouse in Chorula near Opole to cover the most common designs found on the DACH market and in Poland.
Specification and matching principle
The range covers filling hatch cover gaskets for silos of many brands. The key is compatibility with the specific hatch of a given manufacturer, not a single dimension.
| Brand | Hatch type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Spitzer | filling hatch | SF/SK series |
| Feldbinder | filling hatch | EUT/KIP lines |
| Omeps | new type / old type | two variants |
| Kässbohrer | filling hatch | K.SSK/K.SSL series |
| LAG | filling hatch | — |
| other brands | filling hatch | on request |
We match the specific gasket material and size to the brand and hatch type of the trailer — the seat shape and seal profile are unique to each design, so they cannot be reduced to a single universal value. The gasket material is matched to the trailer’s application: in food-grade operations, seals in contact with the material must meet hygiene requirements, while in industrial applications the range of permissible materials is broader.
Brand compatibility
The gaskets in our range are assigned directly to brands — these are not nameless substitutes, but components matching the actual hatches of these manufacturers.
- Spitzer (SF/SK) — the top filling manhole of the SF and SK series is sealed by a gasket matched to this brand’s filling hatch.
- Feldbinder (EUT/KIP) — the filling hatch appears on the horizontal EUT and the tipping KIP; the gasket closes the manhole in both lines.
- Kässbohrer (K.SSK/K.SSL) — filling hatch cover gaskets for this brand.
- Omeps — the range splits into new-type and old-type hatches.
- LAG and other brands — gaskets matched once the manufacturer and, if needed, the hatch type or model year are specified.
When ordering, it is essential to state the trailer brand and — where possible — the hatch type (as with Omeps: new or old type), because these determine the fit.
When to replace — signals from operation
The filling hatch gasket is a wear part replaced periodically — it works through every loading cycle and is constantly exposed to outdoor conditions. Regardless of the silo brand, the same symptoms indicate replacement:
- Hardening and loss of elasticity — the gasket does not return to shape after clamping, so the manhole no longer closes evenly.
- Cracks and cuts — they break the continuity of the seal and lead to leaks at the top manhole.
- Permanent deformation — a compressed, flattened cross-section no longer provides proper clamping force.
- Contamination and sticking with cargo residue — makes closing difficult and accelerates wear.
Bear in mind that the gasket does not work alone: the clamping force comes from the wing bolt, so a new gasket on a worn bolt that no longer tightens will not seal — and vice versa. That is why during filling hatch service we assess both components together and, if necessary, replace them as a set, matching the gasket to the brand and hatch type.
Chorula warehouse
We keep filling hatch cover gaskets for popular brands in stock at the warehouse in Chorula near Opole (4 km from the A4 motorway, approx. 180 km from the German border); the rest we match and source to order. The location by the motorway and close to the DACH border shortens delivery times both on the domestic market and to customers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Warehouse processes are run under an ISO 9001:2015 quality management system.
Matching and order assembly are geared towards mixed fleets: a single shipment can contain gaskets for different brands, as well as the wing bolts that clamp the same hatches. For matching and pricing — ask for a quotation. Warehouse contact: +48 604 800 869, magazyn@magnumchorula.pl.
Specialist portals
We cover filling hatch cover gaskets in a single-brand context in more depth on our dedicated portals: Spitzer and Feldbinder — there we discuss matching in the context of the SF/SK series and the EUT/KIP lines.
