Why a safety clamp
A safety clamp is a small component whose importance is best seen through the lens of what happens when it is missing. In the Storz system — the universal quick-coupling standard used in pneumatic discharge — the discharge hose connects to the system’s spigot by rotation and the engagement of the couplings’ bayonet lugs. The connection is instant and needs no tools, but that same ease of release becomes a drawback wherever the coupling must stay closed under pressure. Under vibration and pressure pulsation the lugs can rotate on their own and the connection releases.
Across the network of brands we service, this mechanism works identically — Storz is a universal system, so the problem of unintended release does not depend on the trailer manufacturer. That is why we treat safety clamps as a shared consumable for the entire fleet we service: they block the coupling’s rotation without interfering with its design, and the driver can still release the connection quickly when needed — it is enough to remove the clamp.
Specification
The clamps in this category are the classic securing device protecting Storz coupling connections against release.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Construction | galvanised steel band |
| Band width / standard | 25 mm (standard) |
| Lining | rubber |
| Securing type | classic |
| Function | locking the Storz connection against release |
Available sizes, matched to the Storz coupling size:
| Storz size | Designation |
|---|---|
| C | 52 |
| B | 75 |
| A | 110 |
| 90 | 90 |
| 100 | 100 |
The galvanised steel band provides mechanical strength and corrosion resistance under constant contact with moisture, dust and road salt. The rubber lining protects the coupling surfaces against abrasion and presses the clamp on, so it holds firmly despite vibration. The 25 mm band width provides an adequate contact area.
Brand compatibility
The clamp is a universal element of the Storz system — it is selected by coupling size (C, B, A, 90, 100), not by trailer series or model year:
- Spitzer (SF/SK) — Storz connections on the pneumatic discharge system.
- Feldbinder (EUT/KIP) — discharge hose couplings on the non-tipping EUT and piping on the tipping KIP.
- Kässbohrer (K.SSK/K.SSL) — discharge connections in the typical Storz sizes.
- Other brands — wherever the system uses Storz couplings in the sizes we offer.
In practice, clamps are fitted on every Storz connection that is under pressure during discharge — at the silo spigot, along the hose run and on the receiver’s side. If the size of the coupling working on a given system is uncertain, simply provide the trailer type or VIN number.
Chorula warehouse
We keep Storz safety clamps in stock at our warehouse in Chorula near Opole (4 km from the A4 motorway, approx. 180 km from the German border). The popular sizes C, B, A and 90/100 are usually available off the shelf, and we include their inspection and replacement in the routine review of Storz equipment — together with assessing the condition of gaskets, couplings and caps. It is an inexpensive component whose good condition translates directly into discharge continuity, so for mixed fleets it is worth keeping stock in the sizes actually in use. Courier shipping across Poland, the EU and the DACH market; grouped orders with the other Storz accessories are possible. For selection and availability — ask for a quote.
Selecting clamps for mixed-brand fleets
The safety clamp is a component that standardises exceptionally easily in a mixed fleet, because it secures the connection itself, not a specific vehicle. Storz couplings in sizes C, B, A as well as 90 and 100 are found on Spitzer SF/SK, Feldbinder EUT/KIP and Kässbohrer K.SSK/K.SSL systems, so the clamp size is matched solely to the coupling size. The mechanism of unintended release — the lugs rotating under vibration and pressure pulsation — works identically for every manufacturer, so the clamp plays the same role regardless of brand.
Differences between designs concern rather the placement of the points where clamps need to be fitted. On Spitzer SF and SK trailers, clamps are fitted on the connections of the pneumatic discharge line. On the horizontal, non-tipping Feldbinder EUT, the discharge hose couplings are secured, and on the tipping KIP — the same connection working during tilt-assisted discharge. On Kässbohrer K.SSK and K.SSL silo trailers, the clamps protect the typical discharge connections in the same Storz sizes. In all cases the principle is one: a clamp on every connection that is under pressure during discharge.
We run the central warehouse in Chorula with exactly this diversity in mind: we hold the popular sizes C, B, A and 90/100 in a single stock, from which we pick securing devices for the entire network of brands. The network’s logistics allow clamps to be added to a grouped order with the rest of the Storz equipment, and for mixed fleets we recommend keeping stock in the sizes actually working on the systems — regardless of how many brands the fleet includes.
It is an inexpensive component with a short replacement cycle compared with the structural parts of the system, and its good condition translates directly into discharge continuity. A clamp failure at the receiver’s yard means downtime, and in the extreme case a connection releasing under pressure — with the same consequences for any trailer brand. That is why we include the inspection and replacement of worn clamps in the routine review of Storz equipment, carried out together with assessing the condition of gaskets, couplings and caps. In a mixed fleet, such a standardised review catches wear before it leads to a problem on the road.
What to watch for across brands
- Coupling size, not manufacturer — the clamp is matched to the C/B/A/90/100 coupling, not to the trailer series.
- All points under pressure — at the silo spigot, on the hose and on the receiver’s side, on every brand.
- Lining condition — abraded or hardened rubber loosens the clamp regardless of brand; include the inspection in the Storz equipment review.
- Stock for a mixed fleet — keep a full set in the sizes actually working on Spitzer, Feldbinder and Kässbohrer.
