ADR Transport at PHS Magnum

PHS Magnum is authorised to carry hazardous materials (ADR) by silo trailers and tankers. We operate domestic and EU ADR transport — with 26 DAF XF 480 Euro 6 tractors and 31 silo trailers (55–65 m³).

What Is ADR and Who Does It Affect?

ADR (Accord européen relatif au transport international des marchandises Dangereuses par Route) is the European Agreement on the international carriage of dangerous goods by road. It specifies which vehicles, drivers, packagings and documents are required when transporting certain substances.

For transport companies this means: not every vehicle or driver is permitted to handle ADR cargo. PHS Magnum operates a dedicated ADR programme with regularly trained drivers and certified vehicles.

ADR Classes Handled

ADR ClassDescriptionTypical cargo
Class 3Flammable liquidsFuels, solvents (tankers only)
Class 9Miscellaneous hazardous materialsPlastic granules with flame retardant additives (halogen-free and halogenated), reactive granules

Class 9 is the most common ADR category in plastic granule transport. Standard granules without additives are not subject to ADR — this must be confirmed in the material’s SDS section 14.

Fleet and Equipment

  • 26 DAF XF 480 Euro 6 tractors — all with ADR equipment package
  • 31 silo trailers (55–65 m³) — pneumatic unloading system for dry bulk, suitable for granular ADR class 9 cargo

  • UN orange hazard board marking per ADR requirements
  • Written instructions on board (language-matched to route)
  • Full emergency kit per ADR chapter 8.1.5: fire extinguisher, eye protection, high-visibility vest, gloves

Frequently Asked Questions

No — the vast majority of standard PE, PP, PS granules are not classified as ADR. ADR is required for: granules with flame retardants (e.g. brominated or phosphorus-based), some reactive or oxidising granules. If in doubt, check section 14 of the material's SDS.

A silo is designed for dry bulk materials. Acids and other corrosive liquids require tankers. We have tankers available, but transport of highly corrosive media requires stainless steel or specially lined tankers.

Usually yes — due to additional administrative and certification requirements. We provide a quote for the specific consignment once we have the cargo details.

UN number and correct shipping name from the SDS, packing group (I/II/III), written instructions for the driver, and a description of quantity and packaging. If unsure about classification — call before placing the order.
