DAF silo trailer hauling bulk materials

In Brief

Bulk material transport by 60 m³ silo trailers — plastic granules (PE, PP, PVC, ABS, PET, PS, PC, PA), recyclates (R-PET/R-HDPE/R-PP/R-PE), hydrated lime, talc, bentonite, Tonsil 571 FF, urea, carbon black, pulverised coal. Own fleet: 26 tractors, 31 tipping silo trailers 55–65 m³, 25–27 tonnes net payload. ISO 9001:2015 certified. Base in Chorula near Opole, 4 km from the A4 — regular routes Poland–Germany–Austria–Czech Republic. Euro6 green sticker for all DACH low-emission zones.

Own fleet, own workshop, own base. PHS Magnum is not a freight forwarder subcontracting to third parties — we operate with our own vehicles, which means direct accountability for load integrity and delivery timing.

26 DAF XF 480 Euro6 tractors and over 30 silo trailers up to 60 m³ — active in daily operations. Base at Chorula near Opole, directly off the A4 motorway, cuts access time for both domestic and EU destinations.

What is bulk material transport by silo trailer?

Bulk material transport means moving free-flowing solids — granules, powders and pellets — in dedicated pressure-discharge tank trailers rather than in big-bags, sacks or boxed pallets. A silo trailer is a sealed tank that loads from the top and discharges from the bottom under low air pressure, keeping the product fully enclosed from the loading point to the customer’s storage silo: no contact with weather, no manual handling and far less risk of contamination than palletised freight.

For producers and traders of plastic granulate, recyclates and mineral powders this is the most efficient and cleanest way to move large, regular volumes. A single silo trailer replaces roughly 25–27 tonnes of bagged product and discharges straight into a reception silo in under an hour, with no pallets to return and no waste packaging — which is why bulk material haulage by silo trailer is the standard for the polymer and chemical industries across Poland and the DACH region.

How we load and unload without damaging the granulate

The biggest quality risk in plastic granulate logistics is mechanical and thermal damage to the pellets during handling. Excessive air velocity or pressure produces “angel hair” (fine polymer streamers), dust and fines that clog customers’ conveying lines and degrade the resin. Our handling procedure is built around protecting product integrity:

  • Gentle top loading — granules are gravity-fed through the dome hatches, dropping into the tank rather than being blown in at speed.
  • Low-pressure discharge — the bulk material is fluidised with aeration pads and pushed out at low pressure (typically up to 2 bar), keeping pellet temperature and friction low.
  • Correct aeration per material — denser or more abrasive products (pulverised coal, bentonite) use reinforced aeration pads; hygroscopic earths travel in sealed trailers.
  • Compartment matching — multi-compartment trailers let us segregate grades on a single run without cross-mixing.

For customers who buy in big-bags, we can also load straight from our big-bag transloading station into the silo trailer — transloading capacity reaches 200 tonnes per day, with a buffer warehouse for up to 2000 big-bags. The granulate is never put through pneumatics on the transloading side, so it reaches the trailer mechanically undamaged.

Materials carried (18 items) — with practical notes

A list of materials we transport with our own fleet of silo trailers. After each trip with a different material, every trailer undergoes a cleanliness inspection and — where required — a full internal wash before the next loading.

Plastics and recyclates (11 items) — main specialisation:

  • PVC (polyvinyl chloride)
  • ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene)
  • Polypropylene (PP)
  • PET (polyethylene terephthalate)
  • Polyethylene (PE, HDPE, LDPE)
  • Polystyrene (PS)
  • Polycarbonate (PC, Clarnate, Makrolon)
  • Polyamide (PA, Nylon)
  • Plastic granulate (general / unspecified)
  • Regranulate (general)
  • Recyclates: R-PET, R-HDPE, R-PP, R-PE

Trailers undergo a cleanliness inspection after each trip with mineral material or chemicals before loading granules. We can handle loading from our big-bag transloading station directly into the silo trailer.

Mineral materials (4 items):

  • Tonsil 571 FF (bleaching earth, hygroscopic material — sealed trailers)
  • Hydrated lime — alkaline material, dedicated trailers
  • Talc
  • Bentonite

Chemicals and technical materials (3 items):

  • Urea — ADR and agriculture
  • Carbon black
  • Pulverised coal — abrasive material, trailers with reinforced aeration pads

What we do NOT transport

For full transparency — materials excluded from our transport (we either do not have suitable vehicles or knowingly do not handle them):

  • Cement, gypsum, fine aggregates, fly ash — no cement trailers in our fleet; we service third-party cement trailers (washing, repairs, accident repairs), but we do not transport these materials with our own fleet
  • Wheat and rye flour, starch, animal feed, food powders — no food-grade certified trailers
  • POM (polyacetal), silica, iron/aluminium/sodium sulphates, salt (sodium chloride), masterbatch and colour concentrates, limestone meal

If you need transport of a material outside our list of 18 — get in touch; where the route fits, we can suggest a partner from the appropriate industry.

Quality, cleanliness and documentation

Bulk material haulage for the polymer and chemical industries lives or dies on traceability. Our quality regime runs under ISO 9001:2015 and covers every load end to end:

  • Previous-load record — each trailer carries a documented history of the last product carried, so customers know exactly what touched the tank before their granulate.
  • Cleanliness inspection — after any mineral or chemical load, the trailer is inspected and, where required, fully internally washed before it is cleared to load plastic granules.
  • Dedicated trailers — alkaline materials (hydrated lime), hygroscopic earths (Tonsil 571 FF) and abrasive powders are kept on suitable, separated units.
  • Full paperwork — CMR consignment notes, weighbridge tickets and ADR documentation where the material requires it, all archived for audit.

This level of control is what food-contact-grade and pharmaceutical-grade polymer buyers expect, and it is why our recurring DACH customers entrust us with sensitive virgin granulate as well as recyclate volumes.

Coverage: Poland and the entire EU

We provide bulk material transport across Poland and the whole European Union, with the heaviest traffic on the DACH corridor — Germany, Austria and Switzerland — plus the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The location of our base is a structural advantage:

DestinationDistance from Chorula
A4 motorway access4 km
German border (Görlitz)180 km
Prague330 km
Vienna400 km

Every tractor carries the Euro6 green sticker (grüne Plakette), so our vehicles enter the low-emission environmental zones (Umweltzonen) of German and Austrian cities without restriction. Sitting directly on the A4 — the main east–west artery linking Poland with the German autobahn network — keeps transit times short and predictable for both domestic deliveries and long-haul EU runs.

Service area

Regular domestic routes:

  • Chorula–Katowice–Kraków (granules, recyclates)
  • Chorula–Wrocław–Legnica (chemicals, hydrated lime, talc)
